Say Goodbye to New Year Resolutions

Say Goodbye to New Year Resolutions

I love this time of the year! Who doesn’t? It’s all about new beginnings, fresh starts, clean slates and endless possibilities.

I’m eager to jump in and make changes but one thing I won’t do is make resolutions. I stopped that years ago because they don’t work.

It’s true and here are the downright depressing stats to prove it.
•    36% of all New Year resolutions are abandoned within 30 days

•    By the 6 month mark over 50% of people have called it quits on their resolutions quits.

•    Only 8% are successful in achieving resolutions.

We are creatures of habit and the only way to succeed with our new goals is to make changes in our daily life. Eventually, those new changes will become a habit with practice and implementation.

I’m also not a fan of starting new things on January 1st (or even the 2nd). I mean, how can you start new life habits if your dried up Christmas tree is still in your living room waiting to be turned to mulch and your cabinets are full of holiday chocolate bark?

Spend the first couple of weeks of the New Year getting back into your normal routine, which was completely disrupted by the holidays (in a good way) and making a plan.

How To Make a Goal Plan That Actually Works in 2017

Step 1 Brain Dump

Get a notebook and write down EVERYTHING you want to accomplish, do and be in the New Year. Let your dreams fly.

Break it down into categories such as biz/career, relationships, personal/health/well being.

Step 2 – Let Some Go

This may not be what you want to hear, but the truth is if you really want to make big changes and accomplish things this year you’ve got to cut that dream list down. It doesn’t mean that those dreams are gone forever. You can do them next year or if you rock through your top goals in 2017 add some back in.

Look at your list and decide which of those dreams/goals is your truest heart’s desire. Which will take you closest to achieving what you want or need for yourself or family?

Keep it simple and remember LESS is MORE. Don’t try to take on too many new things at once. Focusing on less is better.

Stay tuned because tomorrow I’ll tell you how to take those 2017 and break them down to doable steps so you can accomplish them!
